In
Praise of My Vancouver Disciples

Talk•

I draw a long sigh over the
memories of my days in Seattle. For a span of twenty years,
every Saturday night, the main hall of the Lei Zang Si Temple
would be filled with people eager to listen to my dharma talk.
Where did these people come from?
Some were locals from Seattle, others had arrived from
overseas-and many disciples had travelled from Vancouver!
I once mentioned that if you were
to drive three hours north from Seattle, you would arrive in
Vancouver, Canada. I was touched by the weekly trips taken by
the disciples of Vancouver who would drive a total
[round-trip] of six hours simply to listen to my dharma talks
in Lei Zang Si Temple. It would be late at night when my talk
ended and by the time they arrived back in Vancouver, it would
be close to dawn.
In Vancouver, you find the PTT
Buddhist Society [Lei Zang Si Temple] and the Lotus Light Lei
Zang Si Temple, along with other [True Buddha School]
chapters. There were masters such as Master Lian Wen, Master
Lian Gao, Master Lian Zi, Master Lian Hua Shao Dong, and
Master Lian Tzi, and many reverends, who consistently made the
effort to drive six hours every Saturday along with many, many
Vancouver disciples to attend my dharma talks. To be frank, I
have only praise for them!
(Later, [very well known] Master
Lian Han immigrated to Vancouver [from Hong Kong].)
I said, "It must have been
difficult for all of you!"
Yet the disciples replied,
"It is a joy to listen to the dharma talks. Once we get
used to [the travel], it's really not difficult."
I remember Master Lian Gao once
told me, "Vancouver is closest to Seattle. The dharma
energy is so strong in Seattle, how could we not make the
trip?"
Master Lian Han made special
arrangements to stay in Seattle for some time and help with
replying to the letters [received] at the True Buddha tantric
headquarters.
Such days of listening and
learning the dharma [by these Vancouver disciples] did not
span a month, a half year, or one year, but continued through
many years. As I recalled such events I wept in praise of
these disciples! Such spirit, such perseverance, such courage,
such consistent determination seen in them touched me deeply.
I once thought:
If I had said anything wrong in
expounding the dharma
It would not be that I let myself
down,
The fact is that I would have let
all of you down!
I, Guru Master, while living in
seclusion at Leaf Lake, certainly feel great consolation when
I think of the endearing group of disciples from Vancouver.
Know that the Buddhadharma will
surely lead you to the best and most wonderful joy.
The poisons [of greed, hatred,
ignorance, suspicion, and pride] shall be eliminated and the
suffering associated with life and death shall end.
