Lotus Light Donates Food and Hygiene Products to Help COVID-Affected People

Last week, Lotus Light Charity Society delivered food and hygiene products to dozens of recovering patients released from the ICU at Vancouver General Hospital. The instant noodle, tuna snacks, fruit juice, hand sanitizer, and disposable masks helped brighten their day and wished them well as they continue their journey towards recovery.

Volunteers delivered items to many people in our community who were impacted one way or another by Covid-19. Recipients included a woman whose husband passed away due to Covid-19, a 92-year-old woman and her daughter (both recently released from VGH’s Covid ward), and a 94-year-old man  living in an assisted housing complex and whose daughter and son-in-law both passed away due to Covid-19.

Lotus Light Charity Society also held the 2021 Lotus Light Community Caring Day last week, and distributed much-needed food and personal protection equipment to a dozen local social service organizations across metro Vancouver.

These include the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, Collingwood Community Policing Centre, Chinese Community Policing Centre, Strathcona Community Policing Centre, Grandview – Woodland Community Policing Centre, Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre, Watari’s Migrant 2 Migrant Program, YMCA Vancouver, Muslim Food Bank Society, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society, PHS Community Services Society’s New Fountain Shelter, Gladstone Secondary School, and Immigrant Link Centre Society.

Diane Philips, vice-principal at Gladstone Secondary School, thanked LLCS, saying that “all the foods are very welcome and enjoyed by the students from low-income families” and noting that LLCS’s support allows many students to stay in school.

LLCS, through its Covid-19 Community Caring Drive, will continue partnering with generous corporate sponsors and donors, food warehouses, local food assistance groups, and food distribution hubs to distribute much-needed food as well as personal protection equipment to help people in need.

We are seeking volunteers to join our charity programs to help the most vulnerable in the DTES community.
