Lotus Light Donates Clothing to Support Aboriginal Organizations

This week, Lotus Light Charity Society sent several cases of clothing to support Aboriginal organizations. Recipients include the Pacific Association of First Nations Women and the Aboriginal Front Door Society.

According to statistical studies, Indigenous populations in Canada experience higher rates of low income compared to non-Indigenous populations. This situation is linked to factors such as higher unemployment, lower educational attainment, and systemic barriers including discrimination and limited access to resources.

With its headquarters located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES)—a long-standing low-income community with a significant Indigenous population facing interconnected challenges like poverty, homelessness, and substance use—Lotus Light Charity Society has established numerous initiatives and programs to support low-income Indigenous residents. These include the annual Winter Charity Drive, Lotus Light Community Caring Day, Lotus Light Charity Kitchen, and the Lotus Light Food Recovery Program.

For over 30 years, Lotus Light Charity Society’s Winter Charity Drive has provided critical support to homeless and low-income individuals across the Lower Mainland. Each December, Lotus Light distributes winter clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, and non-perishable food through shelters, outreach programs, and community partners—helping ensure our most vulnerable neighbours stay safe during the coldest months.

Currently, Lotus Light volunteers are preparing to collect monetary and in-kind donations for the Winter Charity Drive 2025, to be held on December 13, 2025. Donations of any amount are welcome. Your support is crucial to the success of this event.
