Lotus Light Longevity Star Club Launches Acrylic Painting Workshop
Last Saturday, the Lotus Light Longevity Star Club’s Lotus Light Senior Growth and Care project launched a new acrylic painting workshop, offering seniors an engaging recreational learning opportunity that enriches their lives through art and creative expression. The club invited Ms. Maguy Lee, a professional instructor who teaches painting at the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society, to lead the workshop.
Acrylic painting—also known as acrylic resin painting—uses fast‑drying acrylic paint. Its quick‑drying properties, strong coverage, and versatility make it ideal for beginners, allowing them to explore creativity without the long drying time required for oil painting. Layers can be added within minutes, and the medium offers excellent coverage and easy correction.
At the start of the class, some participants felt unsure. Susan asked, “Can I learn this without any painting experience?” Ms. Maguy reassured her, saying, “This course is specifically designed for students with no prior experience.” The seniors were delighted and listened attentively as she explained each step. Ms. Maguy prepared two sessions to teach beginners how to paint lotus flowers. In the first class, students applied a base color to the canvas and then carefully traced the lotus flower outline demonstrated by the instructor.
Student Yaping shared, “Teacher Maguy used a simple, easy‑to‑understand method that helped us progress from beginner to intermediate. The intermediate level didn’t feel difficult at all! She taught us how to observe the shapes and structures of flowers and petals, reminding us to draw natural curves rather than sharp lines. She patiently guided us one‑on‑one, correcting our work and encouraging us. Thank you, Teacher Maguy!”
This Saturday, the senior club will continue with the second acrylic painting workshop, where participants will complete the paintings they began last week.
The Lotus Light Longevity Senior Club’s Lotus Light Senior Growth and Care project continues to offer unique workshops tailored to seniors.
