Distributed 50,000 Gift Items to Help Low Income Family and Street Homeless

On Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 1:00pm, Lotus Light held the annual Winter Charity Drive 2022 distributed new blanket, sleeping bags, socks, gloves, hygiene care products and grocery foods to help the impoverished families, student’s families in inner-city schools, and street homeless in DTES community.

VIP guests attended the event includes Vajra Master Lian Tzi, Chair of Board of Director, Lotus Light Charity Society; MP of Vancouver East, Ms. Jenny Kwan, City Councillors Mr. Pete Fry, and Ms. Sara Kirby-Yung, local front line officers Inspector Terry Yung and the Homeless Outreach and Community Team of the Vancouver Police Department, Paramedic Jenny Talbot and Kevin Alexander from BC Ambulance Services, Social Development and Poverty Reduction Outreach Team: Atira Women’s Society Ms. Jenna Breuer, Mr. Floyd Wong, Vice-president of Lotus Light Charity Society, Ms. Lorraine Lowe, Executive Director of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Cst. Byron Yee of Chinese Community Policing Centre, Mr. Partap Sahota, Executive Director of Collingwood Community Policing Centre, and Collingwood CPC volunteers team, volunteers from Yarrow Intergenerational Society and Project Hastings.

Lotus Light Charity Society presented to representatives of the Vancouver Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Program and the BC Ambulance Service, City of Vancouver’s Temporary Emergency Shelter program, SDPR Outreach Team Atira Women’s Society and to over twenty low income family support organizations and inner-city schools with a donation of 50,000 gift items for Winter Charity Drive 2022. Premiere David Eby has sent a greeting letter to acknowledged the importance of the community work done by Lotus Light’s Winter Charity Drive for over 27 years.

With the supports from the City of Vancouver Homeless Action Week 2022, community partners and generous corporate sponsors and volunteers from community services and supports organizations, Lotus Light has donated 50,000 gift items to partner organizations Homeless Outreach of Vancouver Police Department, BC Ambulance Services, City of Vancouver Temporary Emergency Shelters, Social Development and Poverty Reduction BC Outreach Team Atira Women’s Society, and to the students assistance program of five inner city schools. Lotus Light has also distributed winter care packages with hat, socks, scarf gloves and ponchos, personal hygiene product and toiletries, and free lunch sandwiches directly to more than 500 street homeless and low income senior in downtown eastside Vancouver community.

In the event, Lotus Light also donated gift cards, food and household items to support students from low – income families in 5 inner-city schools, and presented community partners certificates to thank the long time support of our community partners and sponsors.

MP Jenny Kwan praises Lotus Light’s leadership in holding the annual Winter Charity Drive in the last 27 years and thanks to Lotus Light for understanding and helping the community with their kindness, love and compassion.
