Lotus Light Launches Senior Club Flower Arrangement Art Workshop

Lotus Light Launches Senior Club Flower Arrangement Art Workshop

On April 25, 2026, Lotus Light Charity Society organized its first Ikebana (flower arrangement art) workshop for members of the Longevity Star Senior Club, specially inviting a professional Sangetsu Ikebana instructor to teach seniors the art of flower arrangement. The atmosphere throughout the workshop was relaxed and joyful. Participants listened attentively and carefully followed the instructor’s guidance step by step.

According to instructor Carol, Ikebana — the art of flower arrangement — can be traced back to the Sui and Tang Dynasties of ancient China, when offering flowers to the Buddha in temples was a popular practice. Today, there are more than 2,000 Ikebana schools in Japan. Ikebana follows the beauty of nature, and fresh-cut flowers, branches, leaves, and even vegetables can all be used in floral arrangements. The art of flower arrangement is like a conversation with flowers and nature. Through the harmonious arrangement of the main stems, focal flowers, and filler flowers, creators express their appreciation for nature while discovering the beauty of flowers.

As flowers and greenery were transformed in their own hands into elegant and stylish floral arrangements, every student naturally revealed smiles of confidence and satisfaction. At the end of the one-and-a-half-hour workshop, students proudly held their very first floral creations, taking photos together and expressing excitement about bringing their arrangements home to share with family members. The classroom was filled with happiness and laughter, and everyone left with joyful hearts and a sense of accomplishment.

The flower arrangement workshop is one of 24 workshops organized by the Lotus Light Longevity Star Senior Club. The purpose of the program is to improve seniors’ physical and mental well-being, strengthen social connections, reduce isolation, and encourage creativity and joyful lifelong learning among seniors.

Lotus Light Charity Society will also host a Mother’s Day Charity BBQ and warmly invites everyone to join with family and friends. The event will take place on Saturday, May 9, at Lotus Light Monastery in Richmond, featuring a potluck BBQ, performances, interactive games, karaoke, a birthday cake-cutting celebration for seniors with May birthdays, gifts, and more. The event will offer a rich variety of entertaining activities for seniors, mothers, families, and everyone to enjoy together in the fresh outdoor air. Please stay tuned.
