Founded in 1993 by Buddhist monk
Grand master Lu, the "Lotus Light Charity Society"
(LLCS) is an international non-denominational charitable
organization with at least 90 chapters around the world.
The primary goal of the society
is to 'benefit all people' -- meaning to improve and enhance
the quality of lives of people. The Charity has been active in the four areas to
support the mandate:
Through the
motto "Through caring and learning, we help to build a better
tomorrow", the Charity helps to educate its members and the
public the importance of community charity work by initiating
public projects with other community members.
ACTIVITIES
The society is opened to ALL,
regardless of race, gender, age, creed, or origin. We
encourage our members and clients, new immigrants or otherwise
to involved in the society at large. In essence, the
activities have to fit the four(4) designated criteria. To
date, we have:
1. MEDICAL
ASSISTANCE
The society has sponsored and
fund-raised for organizations that have been chiefly concerned
with such.
2.
EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The Lotus Light Charity Society
sponsors an annual 'Lotus Light Scholarship' program for
students in post-secondary education. Awards are given out
annually to students who met the selected criteria. The
criteria are based on academic achievement, financial needs
and community involvement. In cooperation with other agencies
and organizations, an educational center will be developed to
address educational and employment concerns. LLCS also sponsor
the educational advancement opportunities of community's
organizations and schools.
3. SOCIAL
SERVICES DEVELOPMENT
We coordinated food and used
clothes drive on behalf of various food and used clothing
banks. Our Women's Group meets regularly to socialize and
offer support through the varied and diverse activities. We
also sponsor many community initiatives.
4.
CULTURAL
AWARENESS
We sponsor activities that
helped integrate new immigrants to mainstream society. We
organize social and cultural events such as Chinese folk dance
classes, choir and others which members and the public are
welcomed to participate. We also support and participate in
other social and cultural events that helped increase cultural
awareness.

Homeless" campaign held every Christmas since 1995, has
distributed over 25,000 gloves, socks, scarves and torques
along with thousands of blankets, sleeping bags, and winter
clothing to the homeless and impoverished. Initiated by the
Vancouver Chapter of the Charity, the campaign has been
recognized by governments and other charitable organizations
as a vital and essential relief to the homeless and
impoverished at one of the coldest time of the year.
The campaign to donate large
quantities of rice periodically to the Food Banks, the
low-income families and other organization was initiated in
honor of the Charity founder's 55 year old birthday
celebration. This campaign is carried out world wide including
