Mar 16 - Apr 28, 2012: Free Income Tax Preparation Clinic

Lotus Light Charity Society, in conjunction with the CRA Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVTIP), is pleased to offer free income tax return preparation for low-income residents, seniors and students and newcomers to Canada.

 Eligibility:

• Ages: 18 year(s) and up

• Single person with income under $25,000;

• Single parent family with income under $30,000

• Married or common-law couple with income under $35,000

• Add $2,000 per child (to $35,000) for basic family income

• Interest income less than $1,000

Free Tax Clinic will not handle tax returns involving: deceased persons, rental income, business income, self-employment and investment income. Please bring your T-slips, Social Insurance Number, valid ID (health card/driver license), medical receipts, child care receipts and last year's tax return with "Notice of Assessment", and new tax return form you have received.  For married or common-law couples, an authorization form is required with spousal signature.

Tax Clinic hours are Friday and Saturday afternoons, 1:30pm - 4pm, from March 16 - April 28, 2012.

Mar 1 - May 15, 2012: 2012 Lotus Light Charity Scholarship

Eligible to any Canadian student who is 17 years or older, beginning or continuing their studies at a recognized post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis may be eligible to receive a $300 scholarship to assist in those studies. Applicants will be assessed on scholastic record and community volunteer involvement.

LEASE NOTE: Students who have completed or are in their final years of their post-secondary study at the closing date of the application period are not eligible.

Application submission for the 2012 period is March 1 to May 15, and successful applicants will be notified in early July. All applications must be submitted via postal mail or drop-off (i.e. no email submissions, no fax submissions), addressed as follows:

Application must include the following:

1. Up-to-date official transcript of grades.

2. Proof of acceptance for entry and/or current enrolment at a recognized post-secondary educational institution.

3. A cover letter and resume with information regarding education, work, and volunteer experience.

4. Current letters of reference from previous employers, teachers, or volunteer organizations.
