Lotus Light Donates Grocery Products to Support DTES Distribution Hub’s Hamper Program

Lotus Light recently received an urgent message from Evan, manager of the DTES Distribution Hub—a distribution centre supporting many vulnerable residents in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. He reported that most Christmas hamper slots across partner organizations were already full, leaving many people without access to food this holiday season. Evan is preparing to open additional sign-up opportunities for holiday hampers and, beyond the regular distribution plan, requires 100 more hampers so DTES residents can enjoy the holidays.

In response, the Lotus Light Food Recovery Program immediately arranged a dozen cases of grocery products to support Evan’s hamper initiative. Donations delivered to the Distribution Hub include cookies, biscuits, crackers, breakfast cereal, instant noodles, baby formula, chips, snacks, and a dozen cases of fresh fruit.

Meanwhile, Lotus Light volunteers are gearing up for the Annual Winter Charity Drive 2025, to be held on December 13, 2025. The first Winter Charity Drive took place on December 9, 1995—making this year the 30th anniversary of the event.

For more than 30 years, Lotus Light Charity Society’s Winter Charity Drive has provided vital support to homeless and low-income individuals across the Lower Mainland. Each December, Lotus Light distributes winter clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, and non-perishable food through shelters, outreach programs, and community partners—helping ensure our most vulnerable neighbours stay safe during the coldest months.
