Lotus Light Children Assistance Plan in Action

Lotus Light’s Children Assistance Plan continued its mission this week by delivering 1,000 lbs of grocery food donations to several inner‑city schools, supporting low‑income families with school‑age children facing food insecurity.

According to the latest Child and Family Poverty Report Card, child poverty in Canada rose for the third consecutive year in 2025, with nearly 30,000 additional children falling below the poverty line. Today, almost 2.5 million children—about one‑third of all Canadian children—are affected by food insecurity.

Earlier this week, school representatives arrived to pick up their donations. “Thank you so much,” said Aargon, Principal of Seymour Elementary, as he received the school’s food hampers.

Schools receiving donations in May include Xpey’ Elementary, Seymour Elementary, Britannia Elementary, Strathcona Elementary, and Thunderbird Elementary.

For more than 13 years, Lotus Light’s Children Assistance Plan has supported children from low‑income families in inner‑city schools through programs such as nutrient backpacks, grocery gift cards, and grocery hampers. This year, the program is proud to partner with RBC Community Investment to expand support for vulnerable families.

Lotus Light’s Children Assistance Plan welcomes donations from all sectors of society to help provide nutritious food and essential daily necessities to children in need.
