In metro Vancouver, businesses have slowly re-opened and the city has gradually entered stage three. As the world economy has been severely affected by the pandemic, it is widely believed that there will be a long period of time before society and the world’s economy re-stabilizes. Because of this, people will encounter problems that were not present before the pandemic, such as food shortages. To cope with the escalating demand for meals, LLCS has started an organic garden in late spring, and built a fully furnished charity kitchen to provide free lunches for the impoverished and homeless in DTES Vancouver.
From constructing the vegetable garden, watering for irrigation, maintaining stable growth of the seedlings and crops, to fertilizing, the once weed-filled land has now become a lush green vegetable field! All those who received the harvested produce describe the fresh and tender vegetables to be extremely satisfying!
