Lotus Light Delivers Care Packages and Food to Homeless Shelters
Jan 23, 2021
When Environment Canada issued a snow warning across the B.C. Lower Mainland for January 23, municipalities across Metro Vancouver were prompted to open warming centres and emergency shelters for the homeless.
That Saturday evening, Lotus Light Charity Society volunteers immediately started our response to the extreme weather and delivered urgently needed Winter Care Packages to the Aboriginal Shelter in the Downtown Eastside. Shelter staff Jackie expressed their thanks for Lotus Light’s delivery in such a challenging time.
Charity volunteers also donated dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and bread to Powell Street Getaway Resources Centre, an organization serving folks experiencing homelessness in the Downtown Eastside. Volunteers have also made arrangements to deliver canned pasta, frozen ham, chicken soup and other foods to the Strathcona Community Centre Food Hub to help low-income families and seniors cope with the extreme weather.
