Lotus Light Donates 5,000 Food Items to People in Need for Lunar New Year

Lotus Light Charity Society donated food items and other essential needs to various charitable organizations and schools across Metro Vancouver just in time for the Lunar New Year.

Donated food items included juice, instant noodles, milk powder, rice, bread, granola bars, fruit, produce, sandwiches, cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, pastries, frozen bologna sausages, bacon, and bottled water. Other essential needs included backpacks, fabric masks, shampoo, conditioner, feminine hygiene products, and hand sanitizer.

In total, over 5,000 items were donated, and nearly 1,000 people received the relief through our partner organizations: Chief Maquinna Elementary School, Tecumseh Elementary School, Little Mountain Neighbourhood House, YWCA Crabtree Corner Centre, Strathcona Community Centre Food Hub, Powell Street Getaway Resources Centre, Coquitlam and Surrey Low-Income Families, Grandview-Woodland CPC, Collingwood CPC, Chinese CPC, and Aboriginal CPC.

The staff at the Community Policing Centres told LLCS that, during their patrols in the community they often see folks experiencing homelessness asking for food and water. The food items and bottled water donated by LLCS will be used to meet these needs.

Furthermore, the principal of Chief Maquinna Elementary School sent a letter to LLCS President Master Lian Tzi thanking LLCS for its donation to the school.

“Lotus Light Charity’s generous contribution on February 8th, 2021 is going to help us get food into the fridges and cupboards of some of our most in need families. Our community is largely made up of families who struggle at the best of times, the pandemic has pushed them off the knife’s edge. Your donation allows us to better serve these families so their children can come to school with a full belly, to give easy of mind to in turn become successful learners. Thank you again for your generosity and support!”

Lotus Light Charity Society relies on the generosity and support of corporate and individual sponsors, as well as our community partner organizations, to provide monetary and in-kind donations to support Lotus Light’s various programs and initiatives that help those in need in our community.
