Lotus Light Donated over 10,000 Food Items to Help People in Need in the Community
November 7, 2022, marks the beginning of winter in the lunar calendar, and Lotus Light volunteers are actively raising funds and collecting donations for the Winter Charity Drive 2022. They have donated over 10,000 food items to various recipients, including inner-city schools, senior care homes, community organizations, and distribution centers serving low-income families. Recipients include Villa Cathay Care Home, SRO Collaborative, Yarrow Intergenerational Society, Collingwood Community Policing Centre, Strathcona Community Policing Centre, Chinese (Chinatown) Community Policing Centre, Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre, DTES Distribution Hub, The Chinese Freemason’s Housing Society of BC, Britannia Elementary School, Grandview Elementary School, Strathcona Elementary School, and more. These donations have benefitted hundreds of impoverished families in Vancouver.
Youth students from the Project Hastings volunteer group, long-time partners of Lotus Light, joined the effort by packing 1,000 Winter Care Packages containing scarves, hats, gloves, socks, ready-to-eat canned food, cookies, snacks, and drinks. These packages will be distributed to unhoused individuals in the community. The Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive 2022 donation presentation will be held on November 26, with elected officers, community partners, and representatives from inner-city schools and organizations serving low-income families participating in the distribution of care items.
