The Good Deeds of a Junior College Student Who Volunteered at Lotus Light During Summer Vacation

This year, the summer volunteers at the Lotus Light Charity Society were a little different from previous years. Two young individuals joined the team: Rick, a graduate of UBC funded by a government summer program, and Eric, a junior student from the University of Alberta.

Eric was visiting his relatives in Vancouver during the summer when, by chance, he became involved in a charity event. Upon learning that Lotus Light urgently needed help preparing for the annual Lotus Light Community Caring Day, he immediately signed up to volunteer. From that point on, Eric spent all his free time volunteering at Lotus Light. His relatives, supportive of his generous spirit, even bought him a three-zone monthly pass so he could easily commute to Lotus Light and assist with volunteer work.

Young and energetic, Eric took initiative throughout his two-month stay, stepping up to help whenever he saw a need. His efforts were warmly received by everyone.

The annual “Lotus Light Community Care Day,” held each July, is one of Lotus Light’s largest donation distribution events, helping local disadvantaged groups. Many volunteers are needed to prepare for the event. Not only did Eric help with both the event’s preparation and cleanup, but he also proved to be a valuable assistant in the charity kitchen, washing vegetables and dishes, mopping floors, and completing any other tasks as needed.

Now that summer is coming to an end, Eric is preparing to return to his studies. Everyone at Lotus Light will miss him and has invited him to return next year during his school break.

Lotus Light’s charity activities rely on many young and energetic volunteers to assist with tasks like picking up and delivering food donations, serving hot meals to the vulnerable, and promoting charitable events. We welcome kind-hearted individuals from all walks of life to join us in our mission.

“Through caring and learning, we help build a better tomorrow.”
