Highlights of LLCS Community and Charitable Activities Update 2018

Lotus Light Charity Society Community Contributions in 2018:

Under the guidance of president Master Lian Tzi, 2018 has been another extraordinarily year for the Lotus Light Charity Society: from the successful “Lotus Light Community Caring Day” to the “Winter Charity Drive 2018” campaign, and to the monthly “Hotmeal for the Homeless” programs etc.,  the Charity actively involved in its humanitarian missions to help the needy.

For the past 25 years, Lotus Light Charity Society Vancouver held numerous projects to benefit local communities.

2018    LLCS (Vancouver) donated a total of 10,000 Lbs of rice in 2018 to the Greater Vancouver Society in the Annual Rice Donation program to support the low income families in our community.

2018    LLCS (Vancouver) continued the Feed Hot Meal to Homeless program to provide warm meal to the homeless community at Oppenheimer Park of DTES Vancouver once a month through the 2018 whole year.

2018 LLCS (Vancouver) Children Nutrient Backpack program supported the inner city school children by donating groceries weekly to Strathcona Community Centre’s Food Security Program. LLCS also donated over 10,000 lbs of dairy product to 7 Vancouver inner city schools through Lotus Light Food Recovery Program.

2018    LLCS donated Christmas gifts and household items to BC SOS Children’s Village

2018    LLCS (Vancouver) donated toys, new clothing items to inner city school Britannia Secondary School and Queen Alexandra Elementary School.

2018    LLCS Winter Charity Drive 2018 has donated 40,000 items valued over $100,000 to community partners including Vancouver Police Department Homeless Outreach program, BC Ambulance Services, BC Ministry of Social Development Integration Outreach Team, Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, BC SOS Children’s Village, and inner city schools, to help homeless and impoverished resident in lower mainland.

2018    LLCS National Scholarship program awarded 6 students who are outstanding in academic performance and actively involved in community volunteers works to pursue post-secondary study.

2018    LLCS Mu-Shu Lee Memorial Scholarship continue to support students in Social Works, Education,  and Medicine Science in UBC. 4 outstanding students received awards in 2018.

2018    LLCS held fundraising campaigns for “BC Fire Appeal” and donated fund to Red Cross Canada

2018    In the heart of the downtown eastside Strathcona Chinatown neighborhood, on July 7th at Oppenheimer Park, Lotus Light has held the second annual “Lotus Light Community Caring Day” to celebrate community caring. The event was officially proclaimed by the City of Vancouver to recognize the Lotus Light Charity Society’s 25th year anniversary of good work in the local community amongst a gathering crowd of over 1,000 people.

2018    Lotus Light’s food recovery program has collected donations at value of nearly $500,000 worth of food, and distributed to approximately 25 community service providers and non-profit groups located throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland (Abbotsford, Surrey, Langley, Richmond, and the Tri-Cities – Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody). Lotus Light’s Food recovery team recovery are the number one for food recovery in weights, among the more than 100 charities and organization involved in the food recovery platform FoodMesh.ca network.

2018    LLCS continued holding free ESL Classes and free Tax Return Filing Service to help new immigrants and low-income residents.
