Lotus Light Partners with VPD and BCAS to Deliver the Care

2000 Care Packages and Sleeping bags Distribution this Winter

The icy, cold weather cannot stop warm hearts of Lotus Light Charity Society from giving out Winter Care Packages and new sleeping bags in Vancouver this past Saturday.  In its 5th annual big distribution, joint efforts from City of Vancouver HEAT Homeless Shelter Leader Councillor Kerry Jang and City Councillor Tony Tang, Vancouver Police Department and BC Ambulance crews, LLCS Vajra Master Lian Tzi gave out hundreds of care packages and new sleeping bags to homeless on the street.  A long line-up of homeless at front charity office on the sunny afternoon of Saturday, December 7th, 2013 waited in the striking cold air.  Each care package contains necessary daily items which are a scarf, toque, gloves, socks, snacks, water, juice, poncho, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Proud President LLCS, Vajra Master Lian Tzi, says “Today, I see all our keen annual community partners, VPD, BCAS, Councillor Jang & Councillor Tang look like Santa Claus, giving out precious gifts like every year with us at Christmas time here at Lotus Light Charity Society.“

Kerry Jang, who is an active leader setting up our city’s homeless shelters, admits there are holes in the level of service the city can provide, and it relies on not-for-profits like Lotus Light to fill in the gaps.  “On behalf of our Mayor Greg Robertson and City Councillors, we express thanks to Lotus Light for doing this great cause for many years.  We are seeing a lot of calls from people offering socks, and blankets. We do see a lot of folks raising awareness by blanket drives and coat drives, and they’re all going to great causes [like Lotus Light].”  Jang displays a Lotus Light care package to news reporters at that days media conference.

Proud LLCS has geared up its 18th year in its annual Winter Charity Drive giving out thousands of sleeping bags, cloths, blankets, hygiene products, foods and many essential daily necessities to homeless, low-income families and seniors in Lower Mainland.  A total of 2,000 Winter Care Packages and sleeping bags are being given out by LLCS, VPD, BCAS & Kerry Jang, Downtown Ambassadors BIA Mobile Team this week.  Last week when temperatures expected to drop below zero, LLCS volunteers have already delivered new sleeping bags to the Ambassadors who walk out by foot to give these out to homeless in Vancouver Downtown area.

In the spirit of its motto “Through caring and learning, we help to build a better tomorrow” Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is a registered non profit charity dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in our local community.
