On Saturday, May 21st, Lotus Light Charity Society held its fifth hot meal distribution event for the homeless and impoverished people of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Hundreds of people lined up at Oppenheimer Park for a hot meal, with demand rising due to the warming spring weather. However, thanks to the generosity of Phnom Penh Restaurant (located at 244 East Georgia Street, Vancouver), we were able to ensure this event was another success.
Attendees had the option of choosing between two entrées, Chili Beans with Fresh Bread (with bread provided by Terra Breads, located at 1605 Manitoba Street, Vancouver), or Cambodian Style Fried Rice. For drinks, there was hot Chinese tea and bottled water provided. Finally, there was also chocolate and cake for dessert.
Thanks to the support of our sponsors, we were able to provide relief to the most vulnerable members of our community in delivering a much needed hot meal.
