LLCS Food Rescue Program Recruits Volunteer Drivers

As the Food Recovery program continues expanding, there is an urgent need for more volunteers to help with pickups and deliveries of the donated goods. If you are interested, please sign up with program coordinators Gia or Sean if you have a vehicle and a few hours to spare each week. About the Position

  • What is the position?
    • Assisting the LLCS Food Recovery Program to weekly pick up grocery donations. This program assists low-income residents (seniors and children) by providing them with nutritious food that would otherwise be wasted in the landfill
  • Duties
    • To pick up grocery donations from designated pickup locations (pre-arranged grocery stores)
    • Record items following the pickup protocol
    • Sorting items by food categories
    • Preparing donation item lists for pickup by low-income service organizations
  • Cause
    • Minimizing food waste and rescuing food from landfills
    • Providing nutritious food to low-income residents
  • Who You’ll Help
    • Low-income seniors, families, children
  • Other Details
    • Training is provided
    • Police information check required
      • Appropriate for individuals 
      • Who are we looking for?
  • Required Skills
    • Adults from 19-64 yrs
    • Must be able to speak English
    • Class Five Drivers License
    • A vehicle, preferably your own personal vehicle
    • Interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Must be able to lift and carry 50+ lbs
  • When does it start?
    • November 2019 
  • Location?
    • Downtown Vancouver (at designated grocery stores downtown)
    • LLCS Institute: 347 E. Hastings St, Vancouver, BC V6A 1P3
  • Commitment
    • Minimum 6 months commitment
    • Program operates Monday/Friday/Saturday from 11am to 1 pm
    • Requires 2-6 hours weekly
    • On-call as needed
  • Training
    • Volunteer orientation
    • Program training provided by volunteers (to learn to use the recording tablets)
