Lotus Light’s Winter Charity Drive 2019
Bring Warmth and Joy to Street Homeless and Low Income Families
Lotus Light Charity Society celebrates its 26th anniversary of serving the local community.
On Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 12:30pm, Lotus Light Charity Society has presented to representatives of community partners the Vancouver Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Program and the BC Ambulance Service, City of Vancouver Emergency Shelter Program, and to low income family assistance groups and inner city schools with a donation of brand blankets, sleeping bags, winter garments and food over 60,000 items for Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive 2019. Attending VIP guests including MP Jenny Kwan of Vancouver East, City of Vancouver Deputy Mayor, Councillors Michael Wiebe, City Councillors Ms. Sara Kirby-Yung, and Mr. Pete Fry, Corporate & Community Engagement Manager Ms. Christine Kinyanjui of Red Cross Canada Burnaby Office, and Deputy-Director General Ms. Suzie Chen, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Vancouver. A public distribution of blankets, winter care packages and free food and drink directly to the street homeless at Lotus Light Charity’s head office, 347 E. Hastings Street, Vancouver is held after the presentation. In 2019, Lotus Light Charity has contributed over $800,000 value of donations to the local community, benefited thousands low income families senior, children and homeless.
MP Jenny Kwan thanks LLCS’s contribution to the local community and the supports of Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive2019 partner community organizations: “The work you do to the community matters so much when we do it together. Individually we may be smaller, but when we do together we are mightier, and this is community all about.”
Premier John Hogan sent his greeting to Lotus Light Winter Charity Drive 2019: “I want to thank all of the donors and outreach workers who have demonstrated their generosity and dedication through this and other front-line initiatives, while our government tackles the systematic problems facing people who are homeless.”
“The greatest thing we can do is to help someone in need. Let’s work together to bring warmth and hope to help the homeless survive the cold this winter,” said Buddhist Master Lian Tzi, President of Lotus Light. Just at the end of November when extreme weather hit Vancouver, Lotus Light’s volunteers immediately delivered over 1000 lbs of warm clothing, footwear, boots and ready-to-eat packaged food to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Emergency shelter and New Fountain Shelter,.
The Lotus Light Annual Charity Drive relies on financial and in-kind donations from individuals, local businesses and corporate donors. Winter Charity Drive 2019-20 campaign continues the annual distribution of hundreds of sleeping bags, blankets and emergency care packages in partnership with local police and ambulance first responders, local and city shelters and family service agencies throughout the Lower Mainland.
