LLCS Sponsored the Queen Alexandra Elementary School Wishing Tree Program Again
Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) volunteers visited the Queen Alexandra Elementary School second time this year, donated cart loads of non-perishable foods to the Wishing Tree Program that support students from low income families.
In the afternoon on Jun 6，LLCS volunteers brought along with them 12 cases of grocery foods and greeted by Ms. Cheryl Matthews, principal of Queen Alexandra elementary. “Foods!” In just a short moment, all foods are moved to the storage room of the Wishing Tree Program, with the help of many exciting students.
Ms. Mathews welcome LLCS volunteers into her office and expressed her gratitude to the support of Lotus Light Charity. To help our sponsors better understand and support the “Wishing Tree Program”, we asked Ms. Mathews to give us a brief introduction about the program. Ms. Mathews told us that Queen Alexandra Elementary School is one of the “Tier One” schools in the Vancouver School District, with the highest ratio of students from families below poverty line. School provides free breakfast and lunch to students. Wishing Tree Program provides grocery items for the students whom need extra help after school for their dinner dishes and / or weekend foods. And it’s free to the students. The grocery items donated by Lotus Light are what the students like the most.
LLCS Vancouver has created many special programs to support students of our inner city schools, such as the weekly donation to the Strathcona Community Centre’s Food Security Program, recent donations to the First Nation Room in Britannia Secondary School, and a large batch of toys to Admiral Seymour Elementary School.
