Lotus Light Charity Society 2016 Annual Scholarship Award and Rice Donation Presentation

On Saturday August 20, 2016 Lotus Light Charity Society held the 2016 Annual Lotus Light Charity Society Scholarship and Rice Donation Presentation at Lotus Light Monastery (6571 No 6 Rd, Richmond). Vajra Master Lian Tzi, president of Lotus Light Charity Society, City Councillor Kerry Jang of Vancouver, City  Councillors Paul McDonel and Anne Kang of Burnaby, Ms.  Sylvia Yang, Director of Chinese Cultural Centre, Vancouver Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Ms. Sue Kennedy, Major Gift Officer, Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, Ms. Leanne Poon, Associate Director, Award Development, UBC, Dr. Floyd Wong, Director of Board, Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) and Director of Glitter Woods Investments Ltd  and Ms. Sho Fan Ho, Board Member of CCBA of Vancouver, Canada,  have attended the annual  Lotus Light Presentation.

For 23 years, Lotus Light Charity Society has donated rice to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society and other community partners to help the low income residents and families in the Lower Mainland. This year, the charity donate 5,000 Lbs of rice to the greater food bank of Vancouver. On behalf the charity Dr. Floyd Wong presented the rice donation to Ms. Sue Kennedy of Food Bank. Councillors McDonel and Kang witnessed the donation.

Lotus Light Charity Society National Scholarships has recognized some of our brightest and most community-conscious students since 1993. This year, over 100 applicants nation-wide have applied to the scholarship. 6 bright students with a GPA of 4.0 or better are chosen by the scholarship committee to receive the award.  Councillor Kerry Jang presented 2016 LLCS Scholarship to the 4 students attending the annual presentation.

In 2013, the Charity established Lotus Light Memorial Scholarship and Honorable Scholarship. In memory of her late father Mr. Mu-Shu Lee, Master Lian Tzi has set up the LLCS  Mu-Shu Lee Scholarships to support UBC undergraduate and graduate students in Buddhist Study, Education, Medical, Social Work and Pharmaceutical Sciences .  15 students have been awarded the Mu-Shu Lee Scholarships in the past 3 years. Master Lian Tzi presented a MSL Scholarship certificate to Ms. Sarah Pastrana, Ph. D. candidate in special Education, Faculty of Education, UBC.

“Through caring and learning, we help to build a better tomorrow” Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is a Canadian registered non-profit charity dedicated to help the most vulnerable in our local community. The charity holds annual Winter Charity Drive, providing personal hygiene items, winter garments and new sleeping bags to help homeless and impoverished families. ; donating more than 100 Lbs of grocery items weekly to support the  Food Safety Program in Strathcona Community Center, and donated large quantity of grocery items to the Wishing Tree Program of Queen Alexandra elementary School to help low income families with school age children. The charity continues providing 200 Hot Meals to the homeless at Oppenheimer Park each month in 2016.

LLCS relies on public in-kind donation and financial supports for its charity programs. Your donations are 100% used to support the LLCS 2016 campaign to provide hot meals, winter emergency care packages and sleeping bags to the homeless and impoverished family. Your supports are important for us to continue the much needed community programs to benefit the homeless and impoverished families in the Lower Mainland.
