Vancouver Lotus Light Charity Society held it’s 10th Meals for the Homeless event this year on October 16. On that day, it was forecasted that Vancouver would be struck by a storm, powerful enough to knock out power, tear down trees and impact vast areas of the Lower Mainland. Extensive considerations were put into whether the event should be postponed for safety or whether it should be carried out at a time when people without a shelter need it the most. After determining that the weather was feasible, the event was carried out as planned. As we hoped, we were fortunate that the storm was calm, and despite all the warnings issued, the event turned out to be another success with over 200 people attending.
We were also fortunate to have our President of LLCS Master Lian Tzi to once again tailor a comprehensive menu, along with all the generous support from our sponsors. This month’s menu included BBQ pork fried rice and chicken fried noodles sponsored by Continental Seafood Restaurant, as well as cranberry, raisin and olive breads sponsored by Terra Breads. In addition, our charity society included rice crackers, assorted chips, fruits and bottled water with the meals. Hot Chinese tea were also served to spread more warmth to the hearts of the attendees.
We sincerely thank all our sponsors for their compassionate contributions that sustains this event. Also a special thanks to all our volunteers for their participation, despite the storm warnings. Thank you everyone!
