Lotus Light Distributes Milk, Cheese, Yoghurt, and Other Grocery Items to Disadvantaged Kids, Families, and the Homeless

In preparation for the festive season, the Lotus Light Charity Society (LLCS) brought extra cheer by delivering nearly 17,000 lbs of fresh food and grocery items to sixteen charitable organizations throughout Metro Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, and the Tri-Cities area.

Lotus Light’s food recipients include some of the most vulnerable communities across the lower mainland, including seven community organizations serving low-income families, seniors, and immigrants, six inner-city elementary schools, two soup kitchens, and one addiction recovery center.

In the first two weeks of December, the LLCS Food Recovery team distributed over 4000 lbs of milk, 2400 lbs of yogurt, 1850 lbs of assorted cheese, 6600 lbs of coconut juice, and 1200 lbs of canned goods, baked items, and cured meat sausages and holiday jams. The items were distributed to community-service organizations and had a retail value of $56,000.

Families with children enrolled at inner-city schools across Metro Vancouver were also provided additional grocery items to support their weekend food hamper.

“Milk, cheese, and yogurt provide wholesome nutrition, but these basic grocery items are a luxury that is far out of reach for many people struggling to make ends meet. Often, the homeless are seen as the most food insecure, but it is heartbreaking to see working for poor families with children in B.C. struggle to put food on the table,” said Master Lian Tzi, President of the LLCS.

The LLCS would like to extend our thanks to the volunteers, community-service organizations, and corporate/individual sponsors who make these programs possible. We can’t do this without you!

The LLCS depends on the generosity of our community to fulfill our mission of working towards a better tomorrow for everyone. We welcome volunteers to support our programs and individual donors who can donate surplus clothing, food, or household items. We also invite corporations and local businesses to take interest in our programs and to help facilitate the continuation of our programs through monetary and in-kind donations, or by volunteering.

The Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is a registered non-profit charity dedicated to helping the most vulnerable in our local community.
