The Salvation Army’s Belkin House shelter recently sent their appreciation to the LLCS for our recent donation of 3340 lbs of pizza.
On April 17, 2019, the Lotus Light Food Recovery Team donated $22,790 worth of pizza to the Belkin House, a downtown kitchen organized by the Salvation Army. This donation was able to make 4200 meals. Alvin Chong, Director of Community Development for the Belkin House, commented on the donation: “we’re going to substitute the sandwich lunches this weekend with the pizza. I like the size of the portions.”
The Belkin House is a “high-barrier” shelter, meaning that residents need to be sober and/or receiving treatment for any mental health issues. The shelter is dedicated to breaking the “cycle of homelessness,” an extremely challenging mission amid Metro Vancouver’s affordability crisis.
The LLCS hopes that this donation was able to help the Belkin House and the residents in need! The LLCS thanks its Food Recovery collaborators, partner-community service organizations, corporate sponsors, and volunteers for making these donations possible.
