LLCS Food Recovery Program

The LLCS Food Recovery Program, which started as a weekly bread pickup from a North Vancouver bakery, has now been running for nearly ten years. More recently, the program has expanded and through collaboration with FoodMesh Network and FoodRescue Networks, the program has delivered 1000+ lbs of food to inner-city school children, families, seniors, and homeless individuals.

By working alongside local food producers, distributors, and community-service agencies, the LLCS has been able to deliver 1200+ lbs of grocery food items each month to the Belkin House Shelter. Just this month, the LLCS delivered eight pallets ($90,000 worth) of premium French Food to the Belkin House.

The Community Agency Recipients of these Food Donations are A Loving Spoonful, Covenant House, First United Church, Lookout Housing Society: Yukon House Centre, Open Door Catholic Men’s Shelter, Oppenheimer Park, PTT Temple Seniors, Raincity Housing: Triage Kitchen & Coquitlam Shelter, Salvation Army shelters: Belkin House, Grace Mansion & Harbour Light, TCMG Fairy Grandmothers in Tri-Cities, Union Gospel Mission; FOOD BANKS: Abbotsford Food Bank, Muslim Food Bank, Richmond Food Bank, Single Parents Food Bank of Coquitlam; INNER CITY SCHOOLS & FAMILIES: Admiral Seymour Elementary, Britannia Elementary, Hastings Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Langley Secondary, Ray-Cam Cooperative Centre & Daycare, Strathcona Community Centre, Thunderbird Elementary, Tillicum Annex School and Xpey’ Elementary, Downtown Eastside Women’s Emergency Shelter, and New Fountain Shelter.

As the program continues expanding, there is an urgent need for more volunteers to help with pickups and deliveries of the donated goods. If you are interested, please sign up with the program coordinators Gia or Sean if you have a vehicle and a few hours to spare each week. You can contact the LLCS through email at llcsvancouver@gmail.com or by telephone at 604-685-5548.

The LLCS is proud to be serving those who need our help. The LLCS thanks its volunteers, corporate and individual sponsors, and its partner community service organizations for all their generosity and support in helping our programs run successfully.
