UBC Start to Award 2020 LLCS Mu-Shu Lee Memorial Scholarships
December 9, 2020, UBC started distributing the Lotus Light Charity Society Mu-shu Lee Memorial Scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year. The first batch of awards went to two senior students in the Bachelor of Social Work program, Indigo Smart and Claire McGauley. The second batch will be awarded to UBC students studying in Medicine.
Master Lian Tzi, president of Lotus Light Charity Society, established the LLCS Mu-Shu Lee Memorial Scholarships in 2013 in honor of her late father Mr. Mu-Shu Lee. The scholarship supports outstanding UBC students in Buddhist Studies, Education, Social Work, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine. Since its establishment, 35 students have been awarded Mu-Shu Lee Memorial Scholarships.
Master Lian Tzi said that her father Mr. Mu-Shu Lee was kind and generous to others throughout his life — and that she would like to continue her father’s kindness and generosity to benefit more people.
Furthermore, since 1993 Lotus Light Charity Society has also awarded an annual scholarship to recognize our brightest and most community-conscious students. Each year from hundreds of applicants nationwide, Lotus Light awards a few scholarships to financially disadvantaged students who have achieved academic excellence and are actively involved in community volunteering. More than 240 students have been awarded Lotus Light Scholarships since its inception; applications open in spring every year.
