Lotus Light donated 6,000 pounds of Rice to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank
On July 14, 2021, the Lotus Light Charity Society (LLCS) donated 6,000 pounds of rice to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Early this year, the LLCS has already donated 4,000 pounds of rice to inner-city school’s hamper program and disadvantaged families. In this year alone over 10,000 pounds of rice has been donated to benefit more than 1,000 less fortunate families.
In the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has devastated low-income families. While the vaccination is slowly introducing normalization, the continued economic recession and growing poverty is still a major concern for most people. During the pandemic, Lotus Light received a request from the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) for support. Obliging with the request, the LLCS raised fund and donated over 6,000 pounds of rice to the GVFB. Terra Paredes the Manager of Community Events commented “We are always so grateful for the support the Lotus Light Charity Society gives us each year through the donation of rice. Rice is an important staple to many of our client families so your impact is huge in their lives.”
“We must help those who suffer in disasters, help those who have no shelter, help those who shiver without clothes, and we must offer food to those who are hungry,” a direct quote from the founder of the Lotus Light Charity Society, Buddhist Grand Master Lian Sheng. The LLCS continues to raise funds in-kind donations to help those in need. The LLCS Annual Rice Donation Program has contributed over 340,000 pounds of rice to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and other community service organization, helping more than 100,000 beneficiary families over the last 25 years.
