In early August 2023, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Lotus Light Charity Society, a special gift was prepared for our dedicated volunteers, whose continued support remains indispensable to all our activities. We gave them cookies from Nordstrom Milk Bar as gifts to express our gratitude for their work. In addition to over a hundred volunteers, these gift boxes were donated to underprivileged families and homeless organizations in the downtown east end community of Vancouver, as well as to low-income elderly service institutions. The beneficiary organizations include Oppenheimer Park, Osborn Shelter, Aboriginal Front Door Society and Aboriginal Shelter, SRO Corporative, Chinese CPC, and DTES Distribution Hub. This initiative was met with enthusiastic responses from these community organizations and the families of the volunteers. In total, we distributed roughly 1,500 pounds of cookies.
Lotus Light Charity Society volunteer Tim expressed his joy, saying, “On the 30th anniversary of the society, sharing these gift boxes with my family during the Civic Holiday long weekend is heartwarming and thoughtful. The society’s consideration is truly touching.” He further mentioned, “When delivering the gift boxes to the homes of those in need, seeing their surprised and delighted expressions, and hearing them repeatedly say, ‘Thank you! Thank you! This is the most exquisite gift we’ve received this year!’ brings immense happiness.”
In other news, the weather forecast indicates that there will be high temperatures after the long weekend. As a result, we have prepared over a thousand bottles of mineral water and snacks to distribute to the homeless on hot days to help them cool down and alleviate the heat.
Recently, our Charity Society has been actively raising funds and supplies for the Children Assistance Plan program. These donations will be given to underprivileged students as the school season begins in September. We welcome any contributions from generous individual and corporate sponsors in the community, whether in the form of monetary donations or brand-new food supplies.
