A Day of Community and Caring: Reflecting on the Annual Lotus Light Community Caring Day

by Rick
For the second time, I was given the opportunity to join the Lotus Light team in organizing the annual Lotus Light Community Caring Day event. Leading up to the event, I managed the warehouse area and kept count of all incoming donations. In this position, I saw a large influx of donations in the few days before the event, and I was moved by the kind-hearted donors who supported this event in a time of need. It truly felt like our community was connected and that there was always someone waiting to lend a helping hand.

Having seen the work that goes into planning an event like this, it amazes me that Lotus Light is capable of accomplishing it all with the limited number of workers they have. Everyone is helping out in their free time and going the extra mile for the event to be successful, bountiful, and joyful. Especially the coordinators, who rally donors and volunteers time and time again to support this event and, by extension, our local community.
For the event’s BBQ lunch, Superstore generously donated 1,000 hot dogs and 1,000 hamburgers. On event day, two of their managers, Steve Tam and Carlo Fierro, attended this year with a few of their staff members in tow to volunteer and work at the BBQ station. I was tasked with supporting the BBQ team, but was mostly restocking as the Superstore team was running like a well-oiled machine.
In the excitement of it all, it seemed like time flew by in an instant, and before I knew it, it was time to wrap up. Being able to work together with a group of compassionate volunteers towards a charitable cause feels very fulfilling. I’m grateful to have been a part of this event, and I hope that other volunteers and attendees alike gained something valuable from this experience as well.
