Lotus Light Kitchen Supports Homeless and Low-Income Residents at Oppenheimer Park
From 2015 to 2019, Lotus Light held monthly free hot meal distributions for homeless and low-income residents at Oppenheimer Park, supported by local restaurants. Over four years, this program served more than 10,000 meals, offering much-needed relief to vulnerable members of the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community.
This month, the Lotus Light Charity Kitchen has resumed its support for Oppenheimer Park residents. Earlier today, Chef Richard and dedicated volunteers prepared a nutritious meal featuring steamed rice, roasted ham, beef patties with mixed vegetables, and a case of fresh apples to accompany the lunch.
“Thank you! They loved it so much!” said Danielle, the community center coordinator at Oppenheimer Park, expressing appreciation for the meal provided by the volunteers.
The Lotus Light Charity Kitchen currently prepares 100 meals twice a week, serving low-income seniors living in SRO (Single Room Occupancy) buildings and homeless individuals in the DTES community. Since its launch in the summer of 2020, the program has distributed over 40,000 meals, providing consistent support to those in need.
We invite you to join this effort. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and will help sustain programs like the Charity Soup Kitchen, ensuring we can continue supporting impoverished residents in our community.
