Van-Whole Partners with Lotus Light Again to Distribute Over Ten Thousand Pounds of Mandarin Oranges as New Year Gifts to Community Organizations
Over the weekend, Lotus Light distributed 3,000 boxes, over 12,000 lbs of fresh premium mandarin oranges, to a dozen low-income family service organizations, senior groups, and shelters.
Between January 10 and 13, 2025, Lotus Light Charity Society Vancouver (LLCS Vancouver) distributed thousands of boxes of Topsweet Mandarin Oranges to organizations serving the residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. This generous donation, provided by Van-Whole Produce Ltd, has brought fresh, healthy, and delicious fruit to some of the city’s most vulnerable communities. By working together, Lotus Light and Van-Whole Produce are delivering more than just food; they’re sharing hope and support where it’s needed the most.
This is the second time Van-Whole Produce has partnered with Lotus Light to send New Year gifts to low-income families and vulnerable groups in the community. Van-Whole has been supporting Lotus Light’s charity programs for many years, including partnering with Lotus Light and five other produce wholesalers to distribute 60,000 pounds of produce to help vulnerable residents affected by the COVID pandemic in the summer of 2020, and supporting Lotus Light’s Winter Charity Drive, Lotus Light Charity Kitchen, and Lotus Light Community Caring Day.
The recipients of this year’s mandarin donation include the Salvation Army, Food Stash Foundation, Collingwood Community Policing Centre, Chinese (Chinatown) Community Policing Centre, Collingwood Neighborhood House, Strathcona Community Policing Centre, Guru Nanak Free Kitchen, Burnham Place, Aboriginal Homeless Shelter and Friendship Centre, Sarah Ross House, Aboriginal Front Door Society, Powell Getaway Centre, Aboriginal Shelter, Chinese Freemasons Housing Society, Lu’ma Native Housing Society, SRO Collaborative Society, Oppenheimer Park Community Centre, and Osborn Shelter. The distribution of mandarins is a gesture of goodwill for the coming Chinese New Year, benefiting thousands of vulnerable low-income families, seniors, women and children, and people experiencing homelessness.
Mr. Partap Sahota, Executive Director of Collingwood Community Policing Centre, a long-time community partner of Lotus Light, distributed the mandarins door-to-door in the low-income community complex. “Everyone loves the mandarin oranges. They are very juicy and sweet. They are top quality!” said Cathy Lam, a volunteer coordinator for the distribution of mandarins to migrant workers.
Lotus Light would like to thank the generous corporate and individual supporters, and volunteers for their selfless support and donations last year, and wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year.
