In response to the extreme weather alert for Vancouver’s homeless issued last Friday, dozens of Vancouver shelters and homeless outreach organizations have been desperately trying to keep up with overwhelming need for shelter space and emergency supplies such as blankets and socks.
The Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) is pleased to support the Union Gospel Mission’s public appeal with a donation of 100 new sleeping bags, which will be distributed immediately today as temperatures are predicted to drop to – 8C.
“Vancouver’s most vulnerable people, the homeless and disadvantaged, urgently need our help to survive these weather conditions,” said Teresa Fung, President of Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver). “The Union Gospel Mission reported a waiting list up to 60 people this morning,
and we are certain there are more homeless who are being turned away from the other local shelters and organizations.”
The Lotus Light Charity Society relies on financial and in-kind donations from individuals and corporate supporters to continue its campaign to distribute sleeping bags and emergency care packages in partnership with local shelters and family service agencies throughout the Lower Mainland, including the Vancouver Police Homeless Outreach Unit and the BC Ambulance Service.
