Press Release
Lotus Light Charity Society Fundraiser for Fort McMurray Fire Relief Efforts
The active wildfire spreading across Fort McMurray region in northern Alberta has forced the largest evacuation in Alberta’s history. The catastrophe continues to gain momentum since it started on May 3rd. Large-scale job layoffs in the oil and gas sector has already been hurting the Fort McMurray community, and now the 90,000 displaced residents will face more challenging times ahead as the wildfires continue to engulf their homes and possessions.
At this time, the best way for the public to help with relief efforts is through monetary donations. The Canadian Red Cross are working non-stop with emergency authorities and support teams to deliver on necessary provisions and supplies such as water, fresh fruit, baby food and hygiene products. Please show your support of the Fort McMurray relief efforts!
Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) volunteers is actively holding a local fundraising drive for the Fort McMurray relief efforts in commercial centres and shopping malls, such as Save-On Foods, Cambie St, Vancouver and Yaohan Shopping Centre, Richmond.
All proceeds will be 100% directed to the Canadian Red Cross, and the federal government and Alberta government will match all donations dollar-for-dollar. A charitable tax receipt will be issued for any donations $20 and over. We also accept donations by cheque or credit card online (through PayPal) at http://www.vllcs.org/en/donation/. Please send cheque donations payable to “Lotus Light Charity Society” and reference “Fort McMurray Relief Drive” to:
