The Lotus Light Charity Society (LLCS) is proud to announce our continued support to Toronto’s Daily Bread Food Bank, providing them with over 1250 lbs of healthy organic snacks and beverages over the past few months.
Every week, the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank serves thousands of Torontonians who struggle with hunger and poverty and provides food to over 200 programs across Toronto.
One Daily Bready client spoke about the necessity of these donations in helping them survive. “My rent is $1136. My income is $1050. I essentially buy nothing.”
Unfortunately, this is the reality for many clients of the food bank. Last year, the average Daily Bread client’s monthly income was $808.29 with 68% of clients receiving social assistance as a main source of income. Approximately $8.04 of their income remains available per day to clients after their rent is paid.
Similar to Vancouver, Toronto is also a major city with some of Canada’s highest housing costs. Many face poverty as a result of accelerating housing and living costs, forcing nearly one million residents to visit food banks in the last year. Master Lian Tzi, president of the LLCS, commented on the urgent need to help residents beyond our local community. “By strategically matching our food sponsors with the right local recipients across the country, we can help one more community beyond our own.”
