Lotus Light Donated more than 7,000 Pounds of Marinara Sauce to Help Those in Need
The Lotus Light Covid-19 Community Caring Drive received 7,161 pounds of frozen marinara sauce from Garden Protein International on September 30, 2020. This sauce was donated to 17 charity kitchens, food banks, schools, and low-income family service organizations in the Greater Vancouver and Lower Mainland.
Since April 2020, the Lotus Light Covid-19 Community Caring Drive has partnered with more than forty food hubs, food assistance groups, charities and family service organizations throughout Metro Vancouver. More than 250,000 lbs of food and cooking supplies were donated, which benefited tens of thousands of families and individuals.
The large-scaled food distribution events organized by Lotus Light have helped organizations including CityReach.org who’s providing 700 food hampers weekly for more than 2,000 individuals in East Vancouver, Burnaby Neighborhood House who is helping nearly 300 families and seniors, the Carnegie Centre Cafeteria who is providing more than 350 low-cost meals daily to DTES low income community, and Britannia Elementary, where 150 out of their 200 students are below the poverty line. The school is in urgent need for donations of nutritious food and household essentials throughout the year. Lotus Light also helped Belkin House, BC’s largest homeless shelter, who’s providing 3 meals daily for 300 men, women and children, Tri-Cities Mom’s group with nearly 5,000 registered low-income single mother families, as well as Muslim food bank who’s serving 1,400 low-income immigrant families and 70 SFU students in need of assistance.
