Lotus Light Partners with Lactalis Canada Again to Donate Nutritious Yogurt to Community Kitchen
On June 25, Lotus Light once again partnered with Lactalis Canada to donate 1,650 tubs of Siggi’s Plain Yogurt—totaling over 2,800 pounds—to the Guru Nanak Free Kitchen in support of vulnerable groups in Surrey and New Westminster.
So far this year, Lotus Light has collaborated with Lactalis Canada to donate over 14,000 pounds of nutrient-rich yogurt to community kitchen meal programs, inner-city schools, and organizations serving the homeless. Of this total, nearly 10,000 pounds have been donated to Guru Nanak Free Kitchen, a non-profit organization that provides free meals and essential items to individuals in need.
Guru Nanak Free Kitchen has been a key partner in Lotus Light’s Food Recovery Program over the past few years, distributing over 40,000 pounds of yogurt through its meal programs to support vulnerable communities in the Downtown Eastside (DTES), New Westminster, and Surrey. During the winter of 2021–2022—Vancouver’s coldest winter in 40 years—Guru Nanak Free Kitchen also donated large quantities of blankets, jackets, and food to support Lotus Light’s Winter Charity Drive. In addition, they played a vital role in Lotus Light’s pandemic response initiative, which distributed ten million pounds of hand sanitizer and protective gear.
Guru Nanak Free Kitchen expressed their gratitude for the food donations from Lotus Light. Their free community kitchens, located in Vancouver’s DTES, Surrey, and New Westminster, provide freshly prepared meals seven days a week to assist low-income individuals, the unemployed, students, refugees, and people experiencing homelessness.
Currently, Lotus Light Charity Society volunteers are actively raising funds and collecting in-kind donations for the upcoming 9th Annual Lotus Light Community Caring Day, scheduled for July 19 at the Lotus Light headquarters. The event aims to raise awareness and provide resources and support to the most vulnerable members of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside community.
