Lotus Light Donates Over 2,500 lbs of Grocery Food Weekly to Support the Community

Lotus Light’s food programs continue to support community partners through its Food Recovery initiative. Last week, Lotus Light began collaborating with a new food recovery partner, Options Community Services’ Mobile Outreach Team, to deliver ready-to-eat food to low-income residents in the Delta area.

Lotus Light’s Food Recovery program began more than fifteen years ago with weekly pickups from a bakery in North Vancouver. Today, the program rescues and donates over 2,500 pounds of nutritious food every week to support low-income residents facing food insecurity across Metro Vancouver. Last year a total of 130,000 pounds of value food are recovered and donated to help vulnerable residents in the community.

Aboriginal Front Door Society’s food truck on Main Street is a frequent recipient of Lotus Light’s Food Recovery program. “The people enjoy the burgers so much—thank you!” said Anna, a volunteer cook with the food truck. Lotus Light has been supporting Aboriginal Front Door Society’s food truck for more than two years. Each week, Lotus Light volunteers deliver beef patties, sliced ham, and bread to help prepare fresh sandwiches and burgers for distribution. Volunteers also provide ready-to-eat meals such as sandwiches, pastries, and Chinese-style dishes prepared by the Lotus Light Community Kitchen.

Through ongoing food recovery and community partnerships, Lotus Light continues to transform surplus food into nourishment, care, and hope for those in need.
