Lotus Light Donates Airline Meals to School Food Programs and Sends PPEs aboard to Help Underdeveloped Countries

On September 2, Lotus Light Charity Society donated one and a half pallets of frozen airline pasta meals and three pallets of dinner rolls to two East Vancouver inner-city schools with high concentrations of low-income students. Volunteers picked up the thousands of airline meals and the 1,300 bags of rolls, and delivered them to the schools in time for the start of the school year on September 7.

For many students, lack of food is often a barrier to education. Thankfully, food arrived just in time to help provide relief for students from low-income families facing food insecurity.

On September 3, Lotus Light volunteers also delivered 4,000 pounds of orange juice and lemonade to help several local charities serving new immigrants, single parent households, and other families in need.

Besides supporting vulnerable families locally, Lotus Light has also been actively participating in international relief efforts. Recently, Lotus Light sent 50,000 pounds of personal protective equipment — including hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and face masks — to help the victims of the Guyana flooding disaster. Lotus Light is also working with our partner organization Canadian Food for Children to send 4,000,000 pounds of hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and face masks to less developed countries such as Haiti, Honduras, Panama, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Zambia.

LLCS, through its Covid-19 Community Caring Drive, will continue partnering with generous corporate sponsors and donors, food warehouses, local food assistance groups, and food distribution hubs to distribute much-needed food as well as personal protection equipment to help people in need.

We are seeking volunteers to join our charity programs to help the most vulnerable in the DTES community.
