Lotus Light Charity Society annual Winter Charity Drive 2021 celebrated its 26th anniversary of serving the local community with distribution of new blanket, sleeping bags, socks, gloves, hygiene care products and grocery foods to help the impoverished families, students families in inner city schools, and street homeless in our community.

With the supports from the City of Vancouver Homelessness Action Week 2021 and Community Grant from Wal-Mart Burnaby Super Centre, and supports from community partners the Greater Food Bank Society, and generous corporate sponsors and volunteers from community services and supports organizations, Lotus Light has donated 40,000 gift items to partner organizations Homeless Outreach of Vancouver Police Department, BC Ambulance Services, City of Vancouver Temporary Emergency Shelters, Outreach Team of Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction BC, and to the students assistance program of six inner city schools. Lotus Light has also distributed over 1,000 winter care packages with hat, socks, scarf gloves and ponchos, personal hygiene product and toiletries to partner organizations, and directly distributed to more than 500 street homeless and low income seniors in downtown eastside Vancouver community with free lunch sandwiches, hot Starbucks coffee, fruit juice drink and snacks.

  • Homelessness Awareness Lotus Light has created and posted Winter Charity Drive / Homelessness Awareness posts on Lotus Light web site http://vllcs.org, and shared to social media to raise public awareness to the homeless issue.
  • Annual Winter Charity Drive Distribution, on December 11, 2021, the Lotus Light annual Winter Charity Drive 2021 / HWA presentation, Lotus Light donated the 40,000 gift items to partner organizations including the Homeless Outreach Program of the Vancouver Police Department, BC Ambulance Services, City of Vancouver Temporary Emergency Shelters, the Outreach Team of Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and to student assistance programs of six inner city schools.   • LLCS Extreme Weather Response From December 2021 to February 2022, Lotus Light EWA Response team has made multiple emergency distributions of new blankets, winter jackets, care packages, fruit drinks, hot chocolates, hot coffee, sandwiches, hot lunch boxes and snacks and fruits to street homeless, shelter residents and homeless living in the Crab Park tent city during the record breaking Extreme Cold Weather and Arctic outflow weeks. The program has benefitted more than 400 people experiencing homelessness in DTES community.

The Lotus Light charity programs rely on financial and in-kind donations from generous individuals and corporate supporters. This year’s Winter Charity Drive campaign continues our annual distribution of hundreds of sleeping bags and emergency care packages in partnership with local shelters and family service agencies throughout the Lower Mainland.
