Lotus Light Watermelon Drive to Aid Street Homeless and Low-Income Families
Amidst August’s sweltering heat, Lotus Light launched a Watermelon Drive and generously donated 2,000 lbs. of watermelon, along with bottled water and snacks, to organizations assisting seniors, women, the homeless, and shelters in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The beneficiaries of this initiative include the Aboriginal Front Door Society, Aboriginal Shelter, Osborne Shelter, Crab Park, Oppenheimer Park, Downtown East Side Women’s Emergency Shelter, YWCA Crabtree Corner, SRO Collaboratives and Distribution Hub, among others.
“We will distribute these immediately to those in need at the Aboriginal Front Door Society,” stated Chris, coordinator of the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre, expressing gratitude for Lotus Light’s generous contribution.
This week, as part of Lotus Light’s Children Assistance Plan, over $1,000 worth of PNE Summer Fair Tickets were donated to children from low-income families. These tickets were distributed through the YWCA Crabtree Corner and Strathcona Children Food Backpack program.
Currently, the Lotus Light Children Assistance Plan is actively collecting food items and household necessities for students from low-income families attending inner-city schools. We warmly welcome both monetary contributions and in-kind donations from our compassionate individual and corporate sponsors to fortify the Children Assistance Plan.
