As a part of Lotus Light’s Food Recovery Program, their volunteers will regularly pick up groceries like fruits, vegetables, baked goods, etc. from several supermarkets and grocery stores in Greater Vancouver that Lotus Light is partnered with. A portion of the recovered food will be allocated to sustain the Lotus Light Charity Kitchen program, while the remaining will be distributed to other charitable organizations in the neighbouring area.
With a need for new volunteer drivers to pick up and deliver items to and from Lotus Light Charity Society, they are currently looking to recruit those who would be interested in filling the role. According to volunteers at the Lotus Light Charity Kitchen, they had considerable trouble sourcing ingredients to sustain their food program when it first began. Having to negotiate with various supermarkets, fundraising, ensuring quality and variety of ingredients; sometimes they even purchased fresh meats and vegetables at their own expense to support the food program. After operating for several years, their perseverance paid off, with several supermarkets and grocery stores acknowledging the charitable work being done at Lotus Light Charity Society, happily cooperating with Lotus Light to donate various grocery items to support their food programs. Having more benefactors supporting Lotus Light also means that more volunteers are needed to retrieve those donations, which leads to the current recruitment of volunteer drivers, preferably those who can pick up donations with their own vehicles.
Lotus Light is very grateful for their valued benefactors, and the volunteers that helped build up the Lotus Light Charity Kitchen program, and those who help sustain its operation.
