Lotus Light Distributes Masks Thanks to United Way’s Million Mask Initiative

In response to the provincial mask mandate and the continued demand for personal protective equipment, Lotus Light Charity Society has distributed 20,000 disposable masks to help those in need in the community. This initiative was possible thanks to a generous donation from United Way’s Million Mask Initiative.

Masks were distributed to charity programs, volunteer partners, and other organizations that help vulnerable populations in the local community. Recipient organizations included the community policing centres Strathcona CPC, Chinese CPC, Collingwood CPC, Vancouver Aboriginal CPC and Grandview-Woodland CPC. Recipient organizations also included Belkin House, Covenant House, Immigrant Link Centre Society, Inner-City Women’s Society, Gathering Place Community Centre, Carnegie Community Centre and Collingwood Neighbourhood House, as well as inner city schools.

The masks will help low-income families, single-parent families, seniors, vulnerable women, new immigrants, and folks experiencing homelessness. The masks will be especially helpful in providing protection, especially in light of the state of the pandemic.

In their recent Covid-19 update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said, “No matter what the variant, COVID-19 can spread before someone has any symptoms of illness. This is what makes breaking the chain of transmission difficult and what makes our individual actions all the more important.”

As the pandemic persists, more and more families are facing food insecurity and poverty. Lotus Light Charity Society’s charity programs continue providing essential services to vulnerable populations in the community, distributing food to low-income families, women, and Indigenous groups, providing care programs to single parent families and high school students from low-income families, distributing personal protective equipment, and serving free hot meals to the homeless in the Downtown Eastside.

Lotus Light Charity Society would like to thank to our generous corporate and individuals sponsors for their financial supports and in-kind donation.
