On Nov 17, 2015 Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver) has held a Winter Charity Drive 2015 Launching Luncheon at Lotus Light Monastery. Master Lian Tzi, president of Lotus Light Charity Society (Vancouver), formally announced the launching of Winter Charity Drive 2015 while celebrated the unveiling of the Sutra Pillar of the Usnisa Vijaya Dharani at the monastery.
Master Lian Tzi said, Victorious Buddha Crown Dharani-Sutra (Usnisa Vijaya Dharani) were to bring great help and miraculous benefits to sentient beings in a troubled world. According to this Sutra, through the merits of honoring, reciting and even hearing this Sutra, sentient beings can be relieved of suffering, remove their karmic obstacles, eliminate disasters and hatreds, increase happiness, prosperity, longevity and wisdom and be quickly guided to the Path of Liberation from suffering.
The significance of this Sutra Pillar Unveiling Ceremony symbolizes the great compassion of the Buddha for all beings who suffer in this world, and carries with it our prayers for world peace and happiness.
For the past 20 years, Lotus Light Charity Society’s Annual Winter Charity Drive has distributed over 300,000 items of blankets, toques, gloves, scarves, socks, sleeping bags and other essential items to local shelter agencies, homeless and impoverished individuals and families throughout the Lower Mainland in the winter time. In early December; the Charity in cooperation with the BC Ambulance Service, the City of Vancouver’s HEAT Shelter program, the Vancouver Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Program and other organizations, the Charity will distribute close to 2,000 Winter Care Packages and Sleeping Bags to the Homeless and the Impoverished of the Lower Mainland.
